| Star Wars: Episode III made me sad :( |

Last night I took my little brother (he was miraculously granted permission) and met some friends to go to the midnight showing of Ep. 3. I was going to line up at 7:00!!! But my dad said there was only 12 people there lol. So then I was going to line up at 9:30... still not many people. So we chilled at my buddies house for a few hours and lined up at 10:30. The crowd was pretty tame compared to other episodes (I & II). Opening night for the former showings there would be TONS of the die-hards in costumes with signs shouting/chanting etc. There were only a few people dressed up, like 2 people with signs ("Honk if you love star wars!  ), and the crowd was pretty quiet.  Some cop came along though around 11:00, pulled up to the curb, and put the two little girls (like 16?) holding signs in the back. I guess she gave them $150 ticket each for obstructing the traffic!  She fined another two guys as well and told the crowd if anyone persisted we'd spend the night in jail. She was a pretty tight, newb cop though. (Oh yeah, if you wanna know where I live, here's a clue... We have the highest number of police officers per capita in all of Canada) My dad was pretty disgusted when I told him that this morning.
Anyway! I got into the show and was pretty pumped to see Natalie Portman  I was so obsessed with her in Ep 1 when I was little. haha Awww, the show brought back good memories of when ep 1 first came out... It started off all happy with her telling Anakin (who seriously beefed up) that she was pregnant and they hugged and kissed and it was a happy moment -- "The happiest moment of my life." (Anakin) But from there things just went sour. Maybe it was how he went from being so good -- the chosen one -- to being so bad and how his pride and anger eventually killed Padme, all the younglings, and nearly himself. It was sad to see the awful state he was in after he was burned (and how he became Darth Vader (like, in the suit and all))
Padme dies giving childbirth. Anakin saw this in a dream and is a huge reason why he turned to the dark side; he thought the dark side's power could save her life. But it didn't. She was dying after she learned he killed so many people and turned against everyone, thus she gave up her will to live even before she went into labor. (Question: Was she actually in labor because the med-droid said they'd have to operate to save the children, yet she bore them naturally...) So the question is: Would she have died if he hadn't turned to the dark side to try to save her life? After all, it's the main reason she passed on; not that the child birth killed her, it was from her broken heart... Something to think about I guess.
Maybe it's the fact that the double-trilogy has finally ended that I'm bummed. I remember as a kid collecting pop bottles for a full month just to rent all three (IV, V, VI) movies. I grew up with SW and now, everything is over with. Anyway, the movie left me in kinda sad state and I still sorta am. I guess after watching the movie (it was pretty depressing for me) I'm just über grateful for everything I have. 
Did it affect anyone else?

Haha, I already knew all that and then read the script. So yeah, I intend to see it tomorrow.

Thanks for that. I don't plan on rushing off to see it. Not big on crowds and I haven't been real into since I was a kid and had a crush on Luke Skywalker, but I had always wondered what happened to Padme.

Yeah it was kinda sad... But I thought that was Lucas' intention.. Anyway, I think the movie was really great with finally a decent story with a little more depth than the first two episodes (though the performances are pretty bad sometimes, especially in the beginning). The special effects are ofcourse amazing..
It affected me afterwards, but there are movies who're a LOT more sad than this one though..

the movie deeply effected me, i was really surprised... made me think alot about life, making the right choices, getting older fast, etc. etc. very depressing, i didnt expect to feel so different after seeing it.

I saw the movie about a few days ago. I really liked it. I think it's my favourite episode. it is very dark and sad, and it moved me profoudnly, but it also gave a new meaning to A New Hope, didn't it?

Dark Sider, very interesting! I keep finding all these new tidbits out. My sister (sister!!) pointed out "So that's what would make Princess Leia (sp) a princess!" Duh! Never thought of that! And my other sister (!!) said that it must have been LUKE who brings balance to the force.
I still think of the moral of it though. I got goosebumps at the part when Obi-wan screams "You were the chosen one!!! You were supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them!!!" meanwhile Vader is being burned to a crisp and screaming in pain.  Definitely makes me think about how we all have our free-agency and can choose either the good or bad no matter what.
I think I might catch it once more. It was a fantastic show, the best special-FX I've seen in a loooong time! The other night CBC aired Episode 1 and it sucked compared to three! I remember back seeing it in the theater and thought the CG stuff rocked, well... compared to 3 it's old school now.  And Yoda was a puppet! I forgot about that! (They did a very good job in 3 CGing him. 2 was a little funny with the lightsaber fight with Sidious...)

Dude, wasn't Yoda fighting with Count Duku in that lightsaber fight (Attack of the Clones, or do you mean the new movie?)
Anyways, I really wanna see it, I haven't yet though.
I love the original trilogy, used to watch it a lot when I was young, and I liked Attack of the Clones too. The Phantom Menace was kinda badly acted by some of the actors 
Anyways, I'm sure I'll love the 3rd one. Can't wait to see it

Duku... That must be who it was! My bad. I heard someone call the chancellor dude Darth Sidious (I think) and i was like I thought that was the other dude? Yeah, come to think of it Yoda is like "Count Duku..." before they fight on 2. Natalie Portman is so much hotter on 2 than 3 though. I was disappointed.
I agree on the cheesy acting though. When they've landed on tatooine and that guard guy of the queen goes up to Obi-wan who is scanning the dust-blowing horizon, Obi-wan says "Storms coming up..." And the way the guy says "Looks pretty bad" is just horrible!!! And Ms. Portman isn't the best actress either. I think having to act while looking at a florescent-orange ball where they'd put the CGI stuff later (with Jar-Jar) kinda threw her. lol

I thought it was a great movie overall, but I wasn't convinced by how easily Anakin allowed himself to be converted to the dark side. I mean, he was a genuinly good character (apparent when he twice refused to leave Kinobi behind in the opening scenes of the movie)... so why the sudden change? Because he had a dream that Padme was going to die giving birth? I'm sure he could have used other, Jedi powers to protect her, if he was actually worried that she would come to harm in the near future. There was really no reason for him to kill all those other Jedi, when he was just looking for a way to prevent his wife from dying. To me, it just didn't seem to fit, like it was a last-minute rush to turn him into everything he was at the beginning of A New Hope.
Apart from that, I thought it was very well done. General Grevious was portrayed remarkably well (took me a while to work out that he's actually not a robot--which also made it easier to understand why and how he coughs all the time), and as far as visual effects go, it was top-notch. As for the story taking a sad or miserable turn, I guess I was already expecting that to be the case. We all knew that by the end of the movie, Anakin would have to have made the complete transition to the Dark Side, so it was more the journey which surprised me, not the destination.

Interesting points, Atheist. Come to think of it, I was surprised as well. The chancellor make two, three recommendations for Anakin to request of the Jedi council and that he knew would be denied, they were, and the Dark Side was soon deeply rooted in him? I thought that too. Especially the part after he kills uh... Samuel Jackson haha, I'm not a hardcore SW fan so I'm not great with character names and he's like "Oh what have I done?!" and then immediately and wholly submits himself to the service of the Sith. I thought that was kinda lame. But then again in Ep 2. his first encounter was when he killed all the dudes that had his mother, so he was harboring a lot of anger and guilt to begin with, I guess. I knew what the outcome of the movie would be, with him turning and her dying, but I was still sad.

It was very well done never been a star wars fan the first trilogy wasnt my generation  but i feel i am now
really enjoyed the movie and will watch it again on the big screen and get the original trilogy out to watch
One thing that got me was the blindness of the jedi though
to have not even seen it coming. They are so wise and yet they let Anakin be exploited and let so many other things happen

maybe what Lucas was trying to say, is that you cannot be partly on the dark side, partly on the good side... if you choose to use the power of the dark side, it will enslave you, and you will turn to the dark side in whole (does it make any sense ?  ). And I don't think he could have used his Jedi powers to save Padme.. Jedis accept death as natural, they cannot stop it.

Maybe Anikin was right then to think that the Jedi are abandoning their code and becoming weak.

Yep, that makes sense, and I guess it could explain why the transition occured so fast. But Anakin has been in training since he was SEVEN! With the exception of the time he killed all those sand people, his character never really displayed any weakness that would make him open to temptation from the Dark Side. Sure, once someone experiences a taste of the Dark Side, it may quickly alter their orientation and swallowed the remainder of their "goodness", but why did he so willingly try on a dark glove in the first place? Obiwan was like a father to him, and while Anakin was young and impatient, he knew what the Dark side of the Force did to those who embraced it, so I just don't think he would have stepped into that trap so quickly. Still, your comment does make sense, and I guess I can see why George did it this way.
