The first thing i ever read on lucid dreaming years ago was an article relating it to escapism.
What establishes lucid dreaming to be at such an extent it is escapism?
I feel i am an escapist, even while awake i am daydreaming how the laws of nature could be bent, different ways in how my surroundings could be different.
i guess what i am getting at is why do you LD,
is it to escape life, create a new world, explore your mind, put 8 otherwise wasted hours to use...
Are you an escapist?

Oh yes, I am, I don't even need to lucid dream to escape, just nd's work too.....Of course if I finally do have a fully lucid dream where I can fly at will... this may become a problem for me.

[/qoute] EDIT: wow i am tired...
hehe.
reminds me of something, thank you.
Is there any point where you've to much LD'ing?
having it interfere with normal functions of life,
or are LD's a normal function of life,
how much is to much, or is it all in the intent?
Is it only to much if somebody LD's to escape?

Interesting topic. I'm a big fan of escapism, and this is probably what led me to develop such an active interest in lucid dreaming. I jump at any opportunity to throw myself into a surreal environment, just for the sake of experiencing something new, and different. Something unrealistic. This is why I play video games, and more importantly, why I play them in the dark. I want to be as deteached as possible from the real world, and I want to completely forget about everything that isn't represented in whatever game I'm playing. Hell, these days it's less about the games themselves, and more about the virtual worlds that support them. The more detailed and immersive the world, the easier it is to lose myself in it. Lucid dreams are the ultimate escape, because they involve every one of your senses, and provide a realistic experience that is very easy become part of.
I think most people are like this to some degree, and it's this desire to escape that gives them an interest in movies, books, games, and indeed, lucid dreaming. As for where it comes from... beats me! Maybe we naturally long for adventure, or change.

ah, yes. I am an escapist. I often watch myself in my mind going through out-of-this-world adventures, and I love fictional works, esp those that take place in whole different world, such as LOTR (well it was different back then) and Star Wars and Discworld, etc... Lucid dreaming makes this possible. and anamcara, flying is my favorite thing to do in LDs too. Nothing feels more free to me, its just great.

At first I was an escapist, but not anymore. I don't see LDing as a goal on its own for the benefit of escapism, merely as a tool to realize we all create our own journey through life. We're actively creating this reality, not passively flowing on the streams of some bigger whole. Therefore, LDing can be a perfect guide to explore the deeper layers of waking life.

I guess I'm an escapist, but my goal is to form a view like mystic's. I'm 20, stuck at home, waiting to leave on a mission for my church. My dad is, well, I'm not too happy with him at the moment, I just want out. I put my dream recall and SP "gifts" to use to explore lucid dreaming and act out my dreams. In them, I create everything, especially who is in them. Soon though I'll be able to do that with my own life. For now, LDing will do (and of course for the rest of my life!)
