"Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin Dies

And I feel that this might possibly be the only place to appropriately discuss this. Seriously, I was hoping to find intelligent conversation on the Yahoo! boards. No such luck.

Honestly, the place is filled with “SUCKS TO BE YOU.” and “HEY, STINGRAYS REALLY STING.” Well, no shit, Sherlock.

But that wasn’t the point. Steve Irwin (in my opinion) wasn’t trying to prove anything. He wasn’t trying to say, “HEY. Look at me! I can wrestle crocodiles and stuff.” The entire point was to make a friggin’ documentary that no one else has ever done. Hence the DISCOVERY CHANNEL!?

I’m sorry, but almost anyone who just died deserves much more than a “YOU SUCK AT LIFE.” Because clearly, he didn’t suck at life. He was more successful than those losers on the Yahoo! boards, and he brought a lot more intelligence to the table.

Of course, that’s a generalization. I read about the first ten topic titles before becoming disgusted.

UGH. It just absolutely pisses me off when people are so ignorant. Yes, what he was doing was absolutely risky, and yes he died from doing it, but THAT WASN’T THE FREAKING POINT, PEOPLE.

See, I post it here. I’d post it at the Yahoo! boards, but I think I’d be met with slaps in the face all over the place for trying to go against the flow, and trying to have INTELLIGENT CONVERSATION.

Meh. I’m being redundant and I’m ranting, but… it needed to come out SOMEWHERE.

I personally can’t beleive it!

I think we have all seen Steve Irwin some time or another on the discovery channel doing something insane…but who woulda thought he would actually die!!

He has been bit by 100’s of deadly snakes, i have seen the episodes btw, and now he dies???

This news really came outta nowhere.

I agree with you Neo, but at the same time, jut let those people on the yahoo message baords have their idiot fun. It really is pointless to get frustrated over. :content:

Well, it isn’t really much of a surprise that the guy died. Anyone who grew up in a farm can tell—it’s actually sort of a proverb, something people say—that if you play with snakes [ehm, and crocodiles, I suppose], you’re bound not to get away everytime.

And it’s pretty enlightening that he died, actually. I’m not saying it was nice, only I’m betting a lot of people learnt something from that. Humans nowadays seem to have a superman syndrome of some kind. “It won’t happen to me.” Oh, but it will. Children jump off of high buildings believing they will fly. Teenagers get pregnant and HIV–positive (not to mention addicted to anything from alcohol to heroin—yes, including pot, don’t come tell me it’s not addictive, I’ve seen it happen, it ain’t a nice thing to look at the remains of such process).

Adults bankrupt companies, lose all their money, marry the wrong people and end up so scared they have to work in a small cubicle with timed breaks for coffee to feel safe. Old people fall downstairs because they don’t need no help. Everyone thinks it’s not going to happen to them. It’s grothesque.

Among all these people who fear not, there was this man who hunted crocodiles for documentaries. He probably knew better than most people what he was getting into. He probably knew the chances he would get caught and die.

He probably “knew” he wouldn’t, like the others did, like (as I commented with T on messenger just yesterday) a criminal “knows” they won’t be caught—people make comments about how stupid a criminal was because the crime they did has severe punition. Do you really think they go to bed with the civil code in their hands to check what crime will have the lightest punition? They’re sure they won’t be caught doing whatever it is they’re doing! And the same goes for crocodile hunters, teenagers with the prospect of getting laid, kids watching too many cartoons even though the TV told them they “shouldn’t try this at home” and pretty much everyone else.

He died. We all learn a lesson. Not something unheard of in the history of humankind. What I think is most fascinating about this, though, is people’s reactions. “He was an idiot.” The only reason someone would write that is because they care. They feel personally treasoned. Which leads me to think they watched this guy’s show every day and really wanted inside to be somewhat like him. He cheated on them. He died. They have to grow a thick negative layer around that sense of respect they had to him, because they don’t want to learn from the fact. They don’t want to learn from the guy who died that people inevitably die, that if we play with death we might get what we asked for. No. “This guy was a retard. I can’t believe I trusted him.” And they set off in a quest for another superman to admire, for another celebrity to give them the false sensation that they can mess up and it will be ok.

The more humankind develops technologically, the more it seems to retroceed morally and wisdom–wise.

That was a shock
He was doing a job, and bringing his interest in crocodiles etc to others.
I’m also thinking of the family he has left behind, negative comments esp in the media will be horrible for them, they have enough to cope with.

everything i would’ve said has pretty much been said, so theres no point repeating it. But steve had a great passion for his life and his job, and thats something we can all learn from. RIP

Really sad that he died, I have respected this guy so much.

He is so original, and has so much guts!

I’ve seen so many of his documentaries, he always made me laugh, and freak out… He loved animals and loved nature, so much, RIP Steve.

At least he can look back and see that he died doing what he loved best.

as we all know steve irwin “the crocodile hunter” died yesterday and i thought it would be nice to have a little grave site for him in his memory sorry if theres already a post like this but you can merge them if there is.

ill start off

Steve lived a very nice life and had a better life than most people because he got to do what he loved for a job even though thats what took him out i will miss you steve

Steve was honestly concerned about his crocodiles. He didn’t merely want to exploit them for fun and profit. He wanted to save them, and give them all chances at happy lives. He wanted his crocodiles to live like any animal should.

When you go down in the water with a crocodile you lack some sort of commn sense In my opinion.
But he doesnt need to be a bad person of that reason , and maybe he helped doing something important doing it , I dont know.

If he was a good guy , wanting the ebst for those animals i dont see any reason to dance on his grave.

But , like Lars Monsen (norwegian outdoors/nature “hero” on tv) said about a guy making a movie of hopw he treated and contacted bears…

The bear guy tried to (and said it was smart too) scare the bear away to keep it from attacking you.

The bear-guy died , and they have the sound-tapes…
But didnt publish em

Like lars monsen said, out of 100 bears 99 isnt angry/bad looking at strangers/easily attacking.
But that 1 doesnt wear a sign.

WHen making a movie of how you are safe with them , but arent, you deserve it.

He was a good man, living dangerously and having a good time. The only thing I find strange about his death is this…

He has been bitten by loads of snakes, faced crocodiles, done nearly everything, and a stingray, something thats mostly harmless, is what killed him.

RIP Steve, have a good time wrestling crocs in the big river in the sky.

I’m going to miss him a lot, I really respected him, simply because he really believed in what he was doing, whether it was recording a documentry, saving an animal, whatever
Besides, he died doing what he loved.

I just hope that his death doesn’t make people think ‘Ha! See, stingrays and crocodiles and sharks are all vicious killers!’ …it’s not necessarily true, and it’s certainly not what good ol’ Steve would want everyone to think.

Anyway, I wish his family all the best

He had such gusto for life… it’s really terrible. More people need to passionately live their dreams. Steve Irwin, you will be missed. RIP.

How sad…

I don’t think he was foolish at all.
He had a passion for animals and the such and in his eyes, he wasn’t doing anything stupid. It was his life and he loved every bit of it.

I once saw an episode where an old crocodile that he had caught himself to bring to the zoo, died…and of old age. She had many many babies and contributed to populating the zoo perhaps more than any other crocodile there. He was so upset and literally cried. That man had a big heart and a family who loved him so much. RIP

Want to know how I found out he was dead?

A poll on IGN on the Smackdown gaming board. The poll options were:
(question: is the roster upto your expectations)
Hell Yeah… Awesome
Its good… but could be better
Meh
Sucks… THQ fail
WT*… Steve Irwin is dead!?

Nice eh.

I used to watch Steve Irwin alot, he always amazed me. What he was willing to do to help people better understand animals and respect them. You always know that doing these things, it will get you eventually. But the fact that the Stingray pierced his heart, it just doesn’t seem right.

But even his death is a lesson of sorts, no matter how much you know about animals they are still dangerous to you.

When I saw the headline on my home page I couldn’t believe it, in fact, I still can’t believe it…It just doesn’t sit right with me. I used to watch his shows all the time when I was growing up and his enthusiasm really drove me to respect all walks of life no matter how insignificant they may appear to be. Everyone always used to laugh thinking about that one time he would play with fire and get burned, but now that it has come to pass, nobody is laughing.

It’s cruel and ironic that a man who risked his well being around preditors daily and championed the conservation of all animals should be killed by the most humble of creatures. Pierced through the very heart he gave to protect them…

Steve Irwin died doing what he believed in, we should all be so fortunate. With his passing some of us have lost a hero, a husband, or a father, but as long as he lives on in your heart, nothing can take him away from you. Godspeed Steve, wherever you may be.

Ryan.

This and nothing else that Bruno or these Yahoo idiots said.

im watching the news story on his life here in australia, its acutally sad, i didnt know the guy, but the impact he made was large and he deserves to be respected, not shot down. Who cares if he did reckless things at least he was game enough to get out there and actually do it and it is a very sad story on how he died, after he finished the documentry he went back in to make a movie for his daughter. Its ironic and sad. Have some respect

I keep coming back to this thought. He died doing what he loved. I read he pulled the stinger out himself, so he knew what was going on. Still, it wasn’t a car crash or war that killed him.

He was doing what he loved. He will be missed.

Meh… I used to watch his shows when I was a kid - I loved his fresh approach to reporting wildlife sightings.

 Steve was such a cool guy…I always watched Croc Hunter AND Croc Diaries…when I heard that he died I thought it was a hoax at first, but when it became apparently true… I’m still too shocked to really say anything about it…watching his shows is really gonna be different now…

…how ironic, though…

He’s still the coolest Wildlife hero ever :ok:
