Different styles of flying

Why not call wings it’s own thing? It’s not external but not doing nothing or any other thing. Actually it could be categorized as transforming into a flying creture, wich should be in here anyway. only with wings, the creature you transform into is yourself, with wings. Anyway, Transformation flying. I have been wanting to fly as a bird for some time now. No big superbird like eagle or hawk or albatross… Just some little bird. I have a sort of clear image of that in my mind. Even the place is clear.

Fine, I’ll give transformation its own category

I’ve used every technique except swimming, the invisistairs, and airbending and I think each of them has their own advantages and disadavantages

Superman-style is the absolute boss when it comes to speed, super jump and object assistance are the best for takeoff and object assistance is also best when it comes to actual length of flying time. “Falling that way” for me is the most fun and also the greatest way to gain height as I can go on literaly forever if I don’t wake up  I think “Nothing” and “imagining it” are basically one in the same and are probably my most often means of flying because of the innateness of flying in the dreamworld, so that has overall easiness :ok: Spreading your arms is great for gliding like CSF said, but I hardly use it, and the transverse wave is kinda like my “stepping stone” when I’m having trouble on takeoffs

“Different styles of flying work out differently for different ‘consciouses’…” And such was said by one of my DCs in a “flying tutorial.”
“…It’s not a matter of how, but rather why? Why fly? Fly because you are and flying is.”
And then he took off flying…
It’s one of the most enlightening things a DC has ever told me :universe:

I’ve tried several techniques: imagining it, super jump, gliding, manipulating gravity didn’t work too well though (fell like a stone…splat!). My preferred technique came to me after watching the matrix months ago, when I became lucid I remembered how neo takes off and I decided to try it out.

-Matrix/modified superjump: Once completely lucid stand with one leg forward, squat down, then leap straight up(tucking your arms to the sides). When you need to change directions or speed untuck your arms and legs and lunge in that direction with your arms and legs tucked. This technique usually makes you move at an extremely high speed (probably about mach one on average, although I have travelled to the other side of the earth in seconds before), so you have to have a clear picture of where you want to land (otherwise… ).

The first time I did it this way I had difficulty controlling my speed and direction, but now that I’ve practiced, it has become mostly second nature for me(not to mention my primary method of transportation in LDs).

Today in my LD i ran and jumped and failed a few times.
I used the super man techniche. My head and my body had a careful balanced. If my head was not at an angle I would fall.

I fly like they do in crouching tiger hiden dragon lol. Dont need any position or even to really think about it. I just kind of -floof- fly. But its a very gently slow flying. Good control, bad speed. For speed I walk  When I want to move fast I kind of glitch around the scenery

I’ve used the superjump, swimming technique and the superman one.

When I was young, I used to run really fast so I took off, then I would flap my arms (like a bird). It didn’t last very long, but it was cool (it was in NDs).

Anyway, in my latest LD, I jumped to get into the air. After that I started swimming, I got up into the air easily, but it was very slow. Because of this, I did superman style, which was very successful. For me, steering was very easy during the superman style and I could alter my speed. I went fast.

I haven’t tried any of the other techniques, but I’ll have a go next time I LD.

Yay… :yay:… In my previous LD, cuz i usualy have a problem going up while flying, i used magic to boost me!! I created two weird white beams that had me flying into space in no time!!!

I still prefer my jumpiness to flying. I think it’s more relaxing to aim a jump than to fly around in complete control.

Merged into the ‘different styles of flying’ topic :tryfly: -Q i need a Q smiley

Just to let ppl know, if you are having
trouble with achieving flight: I found out in my last
LD whilst experimenting, (Click Here) that ‘swimming’ in the air like you would do
underwater helps a great deal in controlling your flight  .
I guess you’d have to know how to swim underwater though irl, hehe. (Or maybee not… hehe its after all ‘your dream’)

I found this the most calming, and non stressfull way to achieve flight so far

Give it a try

I’ve always kind of done it the Douglas Adams way: fall down and forget to hit the ground. ;D

In LD’s I love flying so I grow wings to fly somehow.

In other words, what I do is jump off something high and grow wings during my fall. ^^

I always liked the airbending technique more…
You can move faster and you can also kick butt!!

I dunno about airbending… never saw the show… For me, good 'ol ways are best ones. Superman, Just by, spreading arms, etc. But it’s more a matter of taste, every way causes you to fly

I flew Harry Potter-style on one of those Swiffer sweepers  with Uncle Paulie from the Rocky movie series as my grandpa

for flying, i like falling upward, swimming in air, and graceful movement “master of the universe” kind of style

As a kid I could fly sometimes when I had a “magical prune” (it’s fucking ridiculous, I know), and the actual flying would consist of concentrating on flying very hard and then taking off.
Keeping myself airborne was alot harder and I crashing was a major issue.

I’ve never seen the show either… I had a LD last night where i was able to fully controll the air and i used it to fly! I was soooooooo cool!!!
I loooooove playing with wind in LDs… Fire and water are also cool but air is definatly my power… :dream:

It is fun to just float around with no control doing flips and twirls… but it does become a nuisance, and thats when I like to fly gently but swiftly like peter pan .

You can fly around properly with airbending… You just make the air around you push you where you want to go, you don’t just float around… because that would, as you said, be boring!

In my first LD I flew in a way I call the Magneto way :cool_laugh: I put my arms pointing down, and felt them thrust me upward from my palms, but I was only able to hover.

Then I also flew imagining I was sitting in somehting, but I did not see it, I only felt it under me.
