Oregano (cooking with spices)

I have this giant shaker of Oregano in my spice cupboard.

Every time I cook with spices, i find it hard to resist dashing some on.

Problem is; it always tastes like crap!

What on earth do you use Oregano for?

Pizza! :slight_smile: I love it.

Pizza, eh?

Now that I think about Italian food; I bet it would taste pretty good with Linguini and Clam sauce, too :smile:

I use it to make my taters taste italian, bake em in olive oil with oregano, basil, garlic, rosemary and a bit of salt, quite tasty actually.

Also good in a cream-mushroom sauce for over (preferably walnut filled) tortellini.

I only ever have oregano loaded on a steak and cheese sub. MMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmm… wishes I had one now

I usually use oregano in lentils, and stews in general… it’s really good with lentils. :smile:

I’m telling you all! Put it on your pizza before you cook it, so it cooks into the cheesey goodness. o_o;;

Piiiizzzaa.

<–Addict.

Oh god… Not those dreaded lentils…

mmm lentils :grin: /me loves lentils!

  1. Get a loaf of bread and slice it in two;
  2. Put two slices of cheese and two slices of ham in it;
  3. Add some tomato on top of that;
  4. Sprinkle some oregano and close the bread;
  5. Heat that sandwich up.

That’s what we call a bauru in Brazil. :smile:

Really, there are plenty of good things you can use oregano for. Ever tried on the spaghetti? Cook some spaghetti, make a tomato sauce and mix some oregano in it.

Another idea? Get some day–old bread and slice it into small “medallions.” Grill it rubbed with garlic, topped with olive oil, salt, oregano and perhaps some pepper. :smile:

Hurrah! I have lots of new Oregano ideas!

Thanks everyone. Now i’ll get down to business…
