Script error and freezing
PostPosted: Fri 29 Feb, 2008  Reply with quote

As of this morning, LD4All has been causing some problems with my copy of FireFox. The browser freezes for ten or fifteen seconds as it attempts to load, then I see the following message:

Quote:
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Script: http://www.ld4all.com/kin_future_icon.js:231

If I stop the script, the page finishes loading. But as soon as I click on a link to browse into a subforum or make a post, it happens again.

Just thought I should mention that. I can't really browse the forum while this is happening.

I'm using FireFox 3 Beta 3, but the browser hasn't been updated recently, and LD4All was working fine yesterday.

EDIT:

Okay, it looks like the problem is caused by today's date. It's Feb 29th, which is an unusual day (only occurs every leap year). Moogle reports that she began experiencing this same issue right after midnight (which was just a few minutes ago in her time zone), and recalls having a similar problem at SeaLife four years ago on this date.

It's clearly related to the Kin icon displayed at the top of the page, and the lack of a suitable icon for this day (I believe).

It took 5 minutes just to sign in and edit this post, so I think I'll take a break from LD4All for the rest of the day. tounge2

I also use FireFox and I'm noticing things are much slower than usual today. However, I'm not experiencing any freezing. Yesterday was fine, though. Very likely having to do with Feb. 29 and all.

The same thing started happening to me once it hit midnight in my timezone. If you have Firefox with Adblock, or Opera, you should be able to get around it by blocking these two scripts:

http://www.ld4all.com/kin_future_date.js
http://www.ld4all.com/kin_future_icon.js

Well, it worked for me. wink

Thanks, Q. smile

I just noticed that it was back to normal, so I assumed you had seen the problem.

At least it only happens every four years, right? wink
