yes gliding is also very fun 
one time I ran and jumped off this cliff and I glided down over this lush rainforest valley at sunset and I landed softly in this crystal clear pond, it was breathtaking. That was in a ND though

Yes, you could say that, at first I let my self to fall and then straight up, but the gliding part is great!

i've taken this from my freinds LD experience which is to like create a zero gravity atom around you (kinda like the jimmy newtron symbol) and just like point and you'd fly or think bolth have worked thinking much more and if you conentrate but you can like change it intro a plane what my friend did was changed it into a flying dolophin... hope it helped

When I tried flying "superman" and "swimming" style I actually slowed down 
That's why I prefer to fly using just my mindpower(I doubt you really need anything else).

The second time I had a LD my only objective was to fly, so I just did what first came to my mind : I run as fast as I could, and I jumped spreading my arms. This way I could fly to where ever I want and regulate my speed.
I think what's work is just do what instinctually comes to you in order to fly, the principal is that you need to be sure that this way will works for you and it usually will.

I always fly either one of three ways depening on if im in a ND or a LD
If im in a lucid dream, i fly like Neo from the matrix! Hands at side (maybe slightly away from body depending on how fast i want to go), extremely fast speeds, very agile in the air.
annndd then there is a ND which in comparison are very strange. Methods are either
A: wings where my arms are supposed to be. (i think i actually induced myself into a semi LD once by 'feeling' for the sensation of wings flapping)
or
b: (feel free to laugh at this) Sort of like gliding, i pull my legs/knee's up from the ground and use a jacket/coat im wearing to glide/fly by sticking my arms out while my hands are in the pockets. Sometimes its very windy in my dreams and i use the currents, other times i dont have to.
Current LD goal(s): Have LD's more frequently, Talk to dream characters!

Well, I fly like Iron Man. In fact, in a recent dream I went to change my style because of a comment by a DC and I actually lost control. I quickly reverted from Superman to the arms by your side kinda deal. It's much easier for me that way. I don't do much to control myself except like vbflame said, use mindpower. Check the sig.

I think you mean Azula's style of flying? I think she shoots lightning, since her heat is more blue. 
I don't think Zuko flies. But I'd love to try flying like Aang does with a glider. Or perhaps you meant shooting water, I know the others "appear" to be flying like shooting a stream of water and running on it, or on rocks like Toph does

This isn't the best for flying, but it can get you up high fast.
Step one: Grab part of you. Your shirt, a finger, some hair, anything.
Step two: Pull up.
Current LD goal(s): Visit that ball of plasma in the sky. Yup, the Sun.

although i've only had a few lucid dreams, when i want to fly, i pretend my legs are springs, and they shoot me into the sky like Neo from The Matrix! Once your in the sky i find it quite easy to use the wind to glide through the clouds and so on.

I use my arms only....  When I want to fly I just begin running and jump then start flapping my arms to lift off myself from the ground
