| Telling myself I will have a lucid dream doesn’t work |

So when I try to tell my self “I will have a lucid dream”, it doesn’t work. Even if I say it fifty times until I think it’s sinked in, or until I fall asleep. It never works. What am I doing wrong?

Well first of all it takes time for this to work. It may work in a day or it might take a month it just depends. It took me about 2 weeks for MILD to work for me. And you might want to try saying something different like "Tonight I will see my hands in my dream and I will realize Im dreaming" I use this mantra. But you dont have to use this one you can keep using the one your using, im not to much of a pro so I don't know much but the only thing I do know is it takes time.

Well in this one it more about quality then quantity, so do it only a few times and then just go to sleep. Although in many cases any in mine this just doesn't work like let's say mantra: I will wake up after 5 hours. It's just doesn't, why? I don't know.
I guess we just can't tell ourselves how exactly to do things and expect them to work...

You can also try and have a more specific one like "In 6 hours I will know I am dreaming".
Current LD goal(s): 4-5 LD a week :D

You need to have a specific plan prepared, so you can actually visualize why you want to become lucid, and what you are going to do after becoming lucid.
Simply thinking about your plan and feeling excited about it will dramatically boost your success rate.
"A 'lucid dream' is just an empty concept - your mind can't do anything with it.
Why do you want to lucid dream?"

Well, repeating a mantra a few times is the laziest method of achieving lucidity, and thus not always the fastest.
If you really want to do it that way, spend more time on the forum, read about it, occupy your mind with lucid dreams. And only when you think of it often enough will you get a lucid dream.
If you decide to change thing up a bit, try different methods like WBTB or WILD, whatever works for you best.
Oh, and, throw in RCs, they are also the lazy dreamer's way

I do RCs everyday, probably about 20 a day. And I'm constantly reading about or thinking about lucid dreaming. I'm gonna try WBTB then WILD tonight. Btw, I have another question. I've had dreams about dream related things, like my dream journal and I've had two about actually lucid dreaming without lucid dreaming. Here's my most recent one:
I am in a dark cave with my dad. We are both lucid. We are following somebody and looking for the "Holy Ghost". It's very important to my dad that we find it. In the dream, I keep thinking "This is a dream" so I can stay lucid. The dream is not very vivid, but when I tell myself I'm dreaming, I'm more observant of my surroundings. I think "What if this really is a dream?" but I don't become lucid.
So my question is, could this be a sign that I will have a lucid dream soon?

Wait, in the dream you kept saying that it was a dream, but then you wondered if it really was?
Were you actually aware of the fact that you were dreaming? If so, you were lucid, because lucidity in a dream, by definition, is awareness of the fact.
Well, I don't need you to answer that, it is one of these options:
1) You knew you were dreaming but lost lucidity completely so it continued like a normal dream. If so, you were still lucid briefly
2) You knew you were dreaming but lost your control so that's why you were wondering if it was really a dream. Again, if so, you were lucid
3) You were just dreaming of being lucid. I take it you think it was this one, because you said your dad was lucid too and you wouldn't have known that if you had really been lucid. But, if so, ask yourself if you actually did achieve lucidity at some point, because you kept saying that it was a dream. If not, then it was a FLD.
I hope this helps

The number of times you say it is not very important. Some people just say it just a couple of times and it works for them.

It does I think it was definately an FLD. It felt like I was sort of lucid for about a second, but then I didnt really take more note on it Eh, well, I'm getting there, at least!

Well, if you were ''sort of lucid'' for about a second, then you were lucid, which makes your experience a lucid dream, congrats
I guess your goal from now on would be to achieve full lucidity lasting longer, eh?

Logically, the longer you practice and keep focus on the topic lucid dreaming the more likely you will be to succeed.
I would say that your chances to become lucid for a relatively long time within the next few weeks is very great.
