Sleepwalking for the first time (that i know of)? help?

I dont know if this is nessesarily the proper place for this.. but i figured sleepwalking is "beyond" normal dreaming.

So i always sleep with my bedroom door closed (had some nasty sleep paralysis experiences, and now have an odd fear of dark doorways... but thats another story)

i woke up in the middle of the night trying to recall the dream i just had..i know who the dream was about.. but cannot remember any part of it, it feels like its right there but somethings blocking me from seeing the dream.... the only part i remember (in full detail) is opening my bedroom door... and having a really urgent reason(the reason is one of the things blocked) as to why the door needed to be open. i thought this was an odd dream... until i noticed my bedroom door actually was open?

I live alone with my 19 month old daughter so i know no one else opened the door.
i was told my my mother i had night terrors as a very young child but other then that have never sleepwalked in my life(that i know of)

does anyone know what can cause sleepwalking? or how to prevent it?
Im somewhat worried that a simple "opening the door" sleepwalking dream could turn into something more at some point.. and i have no one to steer my sleepy self in the right direction.

Sleep walking is usually prevented by SP. SP can be prevented by using special supplements or medications. Another possibility of sleep walking occurs when one has a dream while in the NREM phase. SP is known not to be particularly active during the NREM phases of the sleep cycle. Regarding the first case, make sure you are not using any supplements that could result in the prevention of SP during REM. In the other case, since NREM dreams that cause you to sleep walk are somewhat rare, I would suggest you to ignore it and it should go away. On the other hand, you could tie yourself to your bed :D.
