I was wondering, if you would set your NovaDreamer, you could also use some other machines, to wake you up as soon as you start dreaming.
If you'd do it for a few days, you should "save up" on dreams and take them all out at once.

They have done experiments on REm-deprivation, and discovered that as soon as you're allowed to dream again, you dream for a longer period of time, you catch up on your dreams. Of course if you don't dream for a long period of time you'll suffer from hallucinations so I wouldn't suggest to do it for long.

So you should be able to, in theory, deprive yourself from dreams all week and have a huge dream at the end of the week. It would probably be harder to aquire a lucid dream, but it should be possible if you're good at it.

A 6 hour LD?
I'd say it's worth a shot, I mean who cares about hallucinations and potential brain damage??

For this you`d need EEG machine with some sort of the sound or as u said NovaDreamer.
But i dont think it adds up like this.REM(and sleep) deprivation results in REM starting faster than 90 mins from going to sleep.It might also make it longer but i doubt it would be noticable and additionally making REM longer is not the goal needed(as we know time there and here is different so its not much up to how long REM is but how stable your lds are)
Then,even if you had this 2 hrs long or even longer REM/dream it all strikes in your recall- this is whats important most.I guess it would be rare thing to have 2hrs long dream which makes sense- partly cuz of the mentioned recall and eventuall holes in it and partly due to the nature of dreams- longer does not mean more sensfull.
And lastly- to actually have good,vivid and long dreams one needs to work on proper sleep routine.Sleep deprivation is a step in opposite direction.
Of course its the nice thing to do when getting familiar or experimenting with WILD.But in generall....i personally doubt it would work the way you see it.

I heard (about these experiments) that ppl not getting REM acted in the similar way as people not getting any sleep.
Maybe just try to stay awake (completely awake, no 5-min. naps) for a long time. There was that experiment in which someone stayed awake for a few days. He started to have HH every 90 min...
Was that "long time" 30 hours? I don't remember... maybe someone could link to some info on that.
So maybe when you go to sleep after that 30 hrs, you'd have very long REM period...

PS. I always wanted to try that - it's a matter of what to do in that time. Maybe I'll try it next week, or in the weekend...

I read in pyschology book that the record of person staying awake without any caffeine or anything else. He had 2 friends to keep him awake. He managed to stay awake for 11 days.. I think. Yeah 11...

Doctor examined him during that period. By 3rd day, he can't remember very well and find it hard to focus on anything. Eyes keep on wandering.. can't focus at one point. He hallunicated as well. Then when he gets to sleep again... the doctor found out that he sleeps like 4 hours more at the first night.. then 2 hours more for other 2 nights... then after that.. back to normal pattern. Therefore, he didn't make up all of his sleep deprivation.

Anyways, sometimes doing that method isn't a good idea cuz your recalling ability worsens, etc. Sometimes, you're too tired to be lucid cuz of that. I have tried that before. smile

Good luck with that though.

It's called "REM rebound" and it makes for some very cool and longer dreams, but there are certainly limits. Dreaming longer than 2 hours is highly unlikely, but those 2 hours will be mind-blowing smile

I would recommend going for 3 days with only 5.5 hours of sleep and give yourself 9+ hours to sleep on day 4.
