Thanks for the update Raging Canadian.
The list of free image hosts has now been updated with current free hosts.
Lets hope there is more luck with these ones, I haven't had time to test them all out for ease of use, reliability etc so fingers crossed.
The problem with most free hosts is they get overloaded with too many users and discontinue or restrict the access they once provided.
Also, most ISPs give free web space when you join.
If you have internet access you will most likely have a free web space that can be used for hosting your own images and files.
Fey~

And if I draw and attach an offensive or just ugly avatar, won't it be deleted?

It can be as ugly as you want. But if it is offensive a mod will get in touch with you.

Some cites make difference between small and capital letters, and some don't, so if I have a file called Road.gif on a UNIX server, I cannot attach it here as an avatar, because the link is converted into small letters somewhere, and when it is called road.gif, I can use it... Am I right or is it just a bug of my server?

You are correct that some sites are case sensitive (some count capitals others convert them to small)
It shouldn't make a difference whether the letter is cpaital or not as to whether you can use it however. So long as the link is correct and you use capitals in the appropriate place it should still show.

http://imageshack.us will host images without any sign-up needed...they store your image forever!! unless it isn't viewed for a whole year then it will be magically deleted.

I tried imageshack last week, but it didn't work... I had to go to www.picgoo.com, though I don't understand how it works

on imageshack.us, after you upload the image, you need to copy the url of the image to your profile page in the avatar section.
the last section of the image shack url page where it says " Here is a direct link to your image." is the one to copy for avatars.
use only the address that looks like this:
http://img70.exs.cx/img70/6578/avcat1.jpg
just copy that and past it to your profile.
the top 3 url sections are for direct-linking of images to forum pages, html or email.
of course...to use the image on ld4all as an avatar it MUST be under 6kb and 80x80 pixels in size!

right click on your avatar at your site and go to properties, copy the Url, and paste it in your profile (top right corner of your screen)

Check with your server and see if it allows "hotlinking"
Some "free" website servers do not allow you to link to images from other domains/websites.
I can host it if you email me the image.
Good luck!

Well after 2 years I thought I would try to put up a different avatar but when I tried to put up a test avatar I got this message:
Your signature is not valid.
The total size of the image file(s) used for your signature (0Kb) and your avatar (8.8Kb) is higher than the 8Kb authorized.
The URL of the remote avatar is not valid
The avatar that I tried to use was within the form regulations so I do not understand why it did not work. Anyway, I have been playing with this for a while and I can’t figure out what I am doing wrong.
I am using picture village to host my avatars.
