how do YOU meditate?
PostPosted: Thu 07 Jul, 2005  Reply with quote

Hello everyone. I am fairly new to this site, and I read about meditation before you go to sleep to ld and empty your mind. This sounds like it would be a very peaceful experience....

But how do you meditate, exactly? I know it means different things to different people, but how do YOU meditate? Do you just lie on your back, do you pray to God, or listen to music? I am clueless about meditation, so if anyone would help me out, that'd be great! smile

i stare at the wall.

well, bit more complicated then that i suppose... heh.
i stare at the wall, sometimes a candle, sometimes a star,
i clear my mind of all thoughts, and regulate my breathing in the method of the day (there are so many breathing techniques, i like to mix them up, although i usually do one supposed to rejuvinate energy)
after a few minutes, i close my eyes and picture myself on my mountain, my desert or my island... self-created "realms" that i am at peace in that i will goto depending upon my mood. i picture myself sitting and meditating in either of the three aforementioned places and i go from there.
(i tend to fall asleep right here a lot... wild? or is it mild? i forget... but this is my most frequent trigger of lucid dreams)

X

Well it's never given me any ld's but I used to meditate by focusing on my third eye then picturing light flowing up and down my spine and through all of my chakras then out my crown...it's a very cool feeling actually..sometimes I fall asleep though...and I haven't been able to achieve a silent mind yet...

eh silent minds are over rated ;o)
there is better stuff you can do while
meditating, healing and chakras are
good stuff... or meditating on a specific
problem that has been bothering you...
i always fall asleep whenever i have
gotten the silent mind thing going on,
i'll either wake up two hours later a little
bit confused, ld and wake myself up,
or go running amuck in the dream world.

This works wonders for me, once I only got 1 hr of sleep and made it through the day with 5 minutes of this.

I just clear my mind, and find a relaxing position, (usually lying down). Then I just hang out and don't think at all; well, sometimes I can focus on something (healing, etc). I try to lose focus on outside influences (the neighbors for one) and focus only on either myself, or what I am trying to gain.

BTW Cervantes rules...Sorry.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! this will definately help me. It seems like most people meditate lying down...I always thought it was something active, like yoga. wink
I will definately try some of these techniques tonight. smile

I'm reading a book Learn to Meditate by David Fontana.
I'm enjoying it a lot. He tells you how to let your thoughts flow while observing them. I really like his technique, but I find it pretty hard to do!
I'm a white-science boy so chackras don't come in my dictionary! I like more studied stuff like the psyche. But I think the chackras and the auras have already been studied.
I saw a good meditation that consisted on:
-Making a mental noise like Ohhmmm
-Maintaining that noise always when breathing in and out(this confuses me eventhough the sound is only in your head)
-Your thoughts should start to shut up and you would achieve a great state of mind!

Yay! I just out of the blue asked some new people at work if they ever meditated with chakra's, cause the yoga class I signed up for hasn't been doing it at all and I'm very disappointed...So anyway this lady knows a woman who teaches deep meditation and the reason she doesn't do it any more is because her intuition was so increased it scared her....YAY! Exactly what I'm looking for! Calling the lady right now!

I started with these, and have created a few of my own.

I find the best thing to do for a first timer is to use the stand sit method, it proves it works and gives you real results very quickly.

They are supposed to be energy centers in the body that effect all different parts of your life and well being depending on what state they are in....That's about the extent of my knowledge except when I do meditation that focuses on them I end up feeling really good in an odd way. That's why I want to get more into it....

All begining meditation is is SINGLE POINT CONCENTRATION. I find focusing on the basic thing such as your breath very helpful at quiting mind and than concentrate on wut ever it is you concentrate on.
