No reality checks work 100% of the time. No reality checks work for 100% of the population. Why don't you understand? |
Well, why some people don't understand some things? Cause they are too stupid, I think... But I have been thinking about it and invented some reasons:
1) Some people have cold. Sometimes it is enough, isn't it .
2) Some people are so suggestible then when they think they must choke they choke.
3) Some people - like me - cannot sleep deeply when they feel their real-life body.
4) Some people have such good manners, that they cannot touch their nose without handkerchief And the dreams are not the time and place where you find in your pockets what you want to.
5) I'm not a doctor, but I think with some ear-ilnesses it can be dangerous....

Yep, this got me lucid in 2 of my 4 LDs so far. It feels so cool when you do it, its my most reliable RC.

I read about the nose RC, but didn't know what they ment.
Not being able to breath is a thing that always have made me lucid. Always underwatter if I need to hold my breath and I can't anymore... I become aware that I don't need to hold my breath, because I'm dreaming and should be able to breath.. so I do.
So now I am going to try the nose RC. I think for me it would work better than the hand RC, because I think I would do that to quickly and to argueless. Although I already now about being able to breath even when I shouldn't be able to do it.
Also for the people whoe have failures... I wonder how they do the check, I'm planning to do it good this one. Because I need to hold my nose (I don't mind holding it as if I was yawning or sneezing or trying to hold a sneeze) I already am paying attention to the RC also.. I think that is a big advantage for this RC.
Then I'm going to try to breath 3 times, in... out... in ..... out in... out...
IRL this is gonna be very breathtaking... but I think with that and really trying to breath through IRL (so really try sucking air through your skin, although you know it doesn't work) Then I think If i would do this RC in my dreams eventually It would work.
I'll keep you posted.

It sounds like a reliable procedure. However, this feeling, when you cannot breathe and the air is pressing your tympana, is rather strong. I’m afraid that, if repeated many times, it can be recalled in a dream and be noticed rather than the feeling of the air passing your nose at that time… Correct me if I am wrong

last night i did the nose rc and when i could breathe through it (plugged up) i thought that meant i wasn't dreaming, so when I woke up I was like "the RC failed................ oh wait........ man that was stupid of me" but I think I went back and had an LD after that.
Or it was just an FA where I was thinking about how the RC failed... lots of FA's today.
I don't really remember much though...... other than the last dream I had....

And why not try to breathe through open nose first, in case you are sleeping too deep to feel it or breathing through the mouth?

I used to use this RC religiously, so here comes my experience with it...
It works great, if you do the RC properly.
I had 100% success when doing it properly, but around 30% success when doing it halfheartedly.
What happens occasionally is that you don't hold your nose long enough to check things objectively.
In one instance, I found myself telling my mother all about lucid dreams and my previous lucid dream... and demonstrated RC's to her. And they failed, because I did them half-heartedly and not properly

It's the only RC what i have used continiously through 4 last months when i started to have LDs in regular basis. So far it has worked in LDs with 100% success, and so does IRL. Only when i have headache, or if i have got a bit cold, then it's a bit uncomfortable to do this RC IRL

Seems that my mind is playing games with me. Just after writing that last night i had FA from ND where i went to window to open it. I was sure that i'm awake and did nose RC just to be very sure. And i COULD NOT breath through my nose. So i assumed that i'm really awake and went back to bed.
When i REALLY woke up i checked the window to be sure that i wasn't sleep-walking and it was closed. So i got just fooled by the RC that so greatly worked for me in past!!

It always works in LD’s. But sometimes it does not work in ND’s. Ones it did not work because I did it not thoroughly enough. And this morning it worked, but I did not believe it because the dream was too realistic. I thought I just had it done wrong way and paid no attention.
But it is my problem, not the RC's

I have heard of people who this doesn't work for, but it works for me. I used it in my first good LD, although I was pretty sure that I was dreaming, and just wanted to confirm it. It felt like I couldn't fully close my nose, no matter how hard I pinched, and there always seemed to be an opening where air could get through.

Very well described. I can get fooled in dreams sometimes. But i always hesitate then, and i realise i never hesitate in real life. because then it is always 100% tight.
