Well, I've been able to do WILD and I was able to do it without problems..but recently each time I try I cannot keep my eyes closed due to random fear. I'm not sure why this happens. I'm not generally a person to be afraid of things. Does anyone know why this could be?

Just to be clear i've only had one WILD and it was unintentional, so im no pro . But i have read a lot about it. Anyway, when do you open your eyes during the WILD? As soon as you start or during HI etc...
It might just be the case that you fear the unknown, or that your afraid of seeing something / someone in particular during SP.
Hope i can help!

I've had around 4 of them, but never have I had this problem before. I think I open them during HI. I don't know why it would be now. I try telling myself there is nothing to be afraid of but I just can't continue on without opening my eyes. Do you have any tips? Thanks a bunch for replying.

Well i would advise you to practice or attempt wilds during the daytime. This is because i think your afraid of the unknown (hi), and you open your eyes to try and see the unknown (to see whats happening). Therefore do it in the daytime every now and then so your room isn't dark, which makes you feel safer. Its even better if theres people in the house at the time. Ive also heard that you can listen to relaxing music while wilding to stop fears from arising. but it might make it more difficult to wild.
This is just human nature, eventualy once you have had alot of wilds, the unknown of Hi will become a known and you wont fear it
I hope you understand what im saying

I do get what you're saying. I've been able to do it before though not a lot but I still had no problems. I just wonder why this happens now it's so sudden. Thanks for the help though. I tried and it worked for a short period of time until I was woken up. Thanks a bunch though. (]:

Are you going through a difficult time right now, RainAme?
I've experienced something similar to you e.g. the nights before my final exam. As soon as I closed my eyes I panicked. I didn't even feel the tension as much during daytime, but at night I always got this diffuse feeling of fear when closing my eyes.
Current LD goal(s): Getting lucid.. :)

Please, Call me Rain C:
Actually, I am not going through any hard times at the moment. I even tried during the day and I had no fear at all..but I still couldn't keep my eyes closed. Oh, and I have a question (i'm new to this forum, but not new to ld's) What do those tags above the stars bellow user's names mean, or what are they for? Like your's is "Space Traveller". I'm sorry if this is a silly question.I'm just curious.

Rain,
I've had the same problem when I've tried to WILD. I can't control it, I don't even think about it; when I think I'm getting close to falling asleep, I pop my eyes open. I totally understand your frustration!
Those times I've also felt very fearful and anxious. Many times when I've tried WILD I've gotten very scared, of course with no apparent reason. Sometimes I'm scared that when I fall asleep I'll stop breathing and die (????) which is totally ridiculous!
In my personal case, this happened whenever I went to bed anxious about something. I'm a very anxious person and I've had many problems because of stress - and I'm sure that's what has played against me all those times I've been scared trying WILD. Why do I think this? Because, for example, it only happens when I'm on class or during my finals. During vacations, when I tried it I would get anxious but it wasn't "fearful anxious", it was "I'm so happy I may be getting a LD tonight" anxious, I even caught myself smiling when falling asleep.
Maybe you're nervous for some reason you haven't realized yet? Do you have anxiety problems? People with anxiesty problems sometimes get anxious for no reason at all. It happens to me. Maybe try to be more relaxed before going to bed? Some breathing exercises may work
Current LD goal(s): make my lucidity last more than a few seconds

They're just a little gimmick, you can change yours in the "Custom title" box in your profile's setting. The FAQ says that you can't change it until you have 10 posts, but I don't know if this is still the case. Otherwise, the titles are:
0 stars = New member
1 star = Novice dreamer
2 stars = Lucid Initiate
3 stars = Somniologist
4 stars = Astral Explorer
5 stars = Dream Deity
6 stars = Cookie lover
7 stars = LD4all addict
Current LD goal(s): visit a "ghost town"

Try exploring the fear. When I first did WILDs I was afraid of the floating / spinning. Then I got over that I was afraid of the HI etc.
Telling you self there ins't anything to afraid of works for me.
Also as try a 'protection' meditation. Or asking 'God' or whatever you personally feel brings your strength and protection. To protect you and keep you safe.
The thing that mostly helped me the most was always doing a white light protection meditation first. It always leaves me feeling safe and ready to explore the sensations even now after 100s of WILDS I still do the protection mediation every single time.
And when HI presents me with scarey scenes that happen sometimes I call on the universe to protect me. it helps for me.

Thanks everyone for all your help! (]: I still have trouble keeping my eyes closed, but that's only the case when I'm trying really hard to concentrate on WILD. When I don't concentrate like when I am really tired, I just begin to fall asleep and realize..ohmy I'm about to fall asleep stay alert brain lets enter this dream lucidly. Today I was really excited that I got to do WILD again, that it only lasted a short time .. and I'm not sure if it was really WILD or just a dream that made me feel like I did WILD I was able to control it and everything..it's just like I was excited I snapped out of my dream..but I didn't wake up..it was just blackness and then I lost lucidity and just..continued asleep..Why could this be? I know the snapping out was because I was excited but when I tried to regain lucidity..I just couldn't do it anymore. Once again thanks for everyone's help
