Let me jump in here and make a quick comment.
I’ve read throughout this thread about how “marijuana has never caused any deaths.”
Sadly, that is not true for my hometown.
Recently, a drug task force was doing a routine helicoptor sweep of our area. The task force were looking for illegal crops of marijuana. The helicoptor crashed and killed the long-time and respected policemen inside.
Is it really worth it?
I don’t think so.
Lives lost due to the effort to outlaw a plant. How embarassing.
The chemical make-up of marijuana is harmless, a bananna peel has more toxins. It’s the silly propaganda that is preached about it that makes it seem bad. Sad really.
I’ve heard an interesting history story. I’m not sure of the facts:
I’ve recently heard that the 200+year old company DuPont is largly to blame for the defamation of marijuana. During the early 1900s DuPont was branching out into many areas, transforming from the “explosives/black powder” market that helped fuel them, and into many other areas for a science-based chemical company.
During the 1930s DuPont created the world’s first true synthetic textile fiber, Nylon. Also, the American government were creating “Sow hemp for victory” campaigns that encouraged farmers to grow the mulit-purposeful plant. During World-War time it was hoped to help our economy and provide helpful resources; fuel, clothes, fabric, paper, and the world’s strongest rope … the world’s strongest for that time.
So, to make a long story short. In a textile age DuPont was the Microsoft of the time. It’s main competition was not Apple or Linux, it was the all-natural multipurpose marijuana. It grew like a weed and had 1000+'s of years of useful history. The story concludes with DuPont being another money hungry corporation with a dirty propagana scheme. Marijuana was then thought of as evil, dirty and bad. While DuPont science labs churned up more synthetic products to easily produce and sale.
A quick search on Google.com gave me these resources that you can read:
thehempevolution.org/history/history.htm
iahushua.com/Hemp.html
lightparty.com/Light/Hemp4.html
they all mention the companies DuPont and Hearst and the roles they play in demonizing marijuana.
The first US president grew and harvested Marijuana. I have visited George Washington’s home in Mount Vernon and have actually walked through his gardens. There was no more marijana plants, but yet they are cloning the large Oak trees that he planted as seedlings.
How Ironic, this whole synthetic VS. natural relationship.
