Sleepwalkers - any good stories?

I’ll start by giving you mine.

I was sleeping on the couch when the phone woke me up. The cordless was right next to me, so I answered it & proceeded to take my leave of the family-infested room. I heard my dad ask me what I was doing. Annoyed - I turned to answer, but the phone vanished from my hand and I woke up standing there in complete awe.

They still give me hell for it :flower:
Anyone else?

=p

 Meow, that’s hilarious!

I don’t think I have ever sleptwalked, but I’ve had other hallucinations. I’ve dreamt that I’m talking to someone in the room but when I fully wake up I’m alone. Or I dream and feel someone in the bed with me, but wake up confused that I’m alone.

Someone I once knew had a severe sleepwalking and sleepeating problem. The doctors never took it serious until another family member gave them a videotape. It was footage of him asleep hugging the regrigerator, snorring while eating all kinds of food, then he goes back to bed in the wrong bed room and scares the kids by sitting at the end of their bed snorring while eating chips. The doctor took the tape to be examined by a number of specialist.

Very true story, I’ve seen some of the tape myself. It’s a very serious and sad problem for some people.

… but Meow’s story 'bout made be bust my britches lol:

I’ve had a few ‘unconscious strolls’ in my time. The strange thing is, that most of them happened over a 1 week period while I was on a school camp.

On the first night, I woke up and there was someone sleeping next to me. I didn’t particularly enjoy this, so I kicked them out. A few minutes later, the other guy turned on the lights, and I saw that it was in fact ME that was in the wrong room. That single handedly ruined my self-esteam for the entire week. :cool_laugh:

Other things happened to both me, and a good friend for the rest of that camp, including waking up sitting around a table in the mess hall, at 1am.

One time I was nine and I woke up to this shaking. My little sister (two years younger) was jumping on my bed. I got annoyed and told her to get out. When she wouldn’t I kicked her out. She then walked into my closet and I heard a tinkling sound.
She then walked back out and started laughing hystericly and I was starting to get freaked out. Then, For no apparent reason at all she screamed “SECRETA!!” (my name) at the top of her lungs and then just climbed back into bed.
I never figured she was sleepwalking until the next morning when she told me she didn’t remember any of that, but she did have a dream she was on the toilet and I walked in on her. That’s when I noticed the really funky smell coming from the closet … :bored:

This is a true story! Don’t know if it was related to the dream or not, but it was hilarius!!!

some years back i once a year in the summer would go out to a lake with my aunt where my cousin lived. my aunt had a trailer in a trailer park in kind of a secluded area next to the lake. well i fell asleep one night and i dreamt of myself walking outside of the trailer around a house, walked along the edge of the lake, wandered further from the trailer, around the outhouse and back to the trailer. i remember walking to the trailer and seeing the light inside glowing out the open door where my aunt was sitting and went back inside. the next day i was told i sleptwalked the same path as mentioned.
another when i was a child i was sleeping in a bed at the foot of my parents bed and i got up and watched my brother go through a corridor and went down long winding stone staircase and disappeared around the curve and i screamed at the top of my lungs “MIKE NOOOO, DON’T!!” i was genuinely scared for some reason. i was actually screaming into my moms dresser where there was a huge mirror from where i was standing. suddenly my dads light turned on and even then i saw that in the dream and just went back to bed.

Why is it that people who are sleepwalking don’t walk into as much stuff as they should?

Is the mind capable of storing a profound geographical representation of our current environment?

The reason I ask is because I’ve seen people carefully navigate doorways and other obstacles while they were sleepwalking - with their eyes closed.

Yes, i think that the mind can store a lot of unconscious information about your surroundings. (perhaps it is a survival instinct where, if you woke up in danger, you could get out as quick as possible) also if you sleep in the same room in the same house for many years then i think that you will know where many things are subconsciously. You body might also detect heat coming off things in summer.

A little off topic: (there are some blind people that can make a chirping sound. This sound acts a bit like sonar, it bounces off stuff and back to their ears, it takes a while to master though. On the TV it showed a blind person stand infront of a tree and use the technique. they said something like its tall and rough and then they realised that it was a tree. The show even showed some of them riding bikes around outside) perhaps we also store a sonar map of our house?

I don’t think its so unusual that we know where we are going when we are unconscious
