Best sleeping position for having Lds

I’ve noticed that comfort does affect dreams. The more comfortable the better.

Also, I’m a right-side sleeper. I couldn’t fall asleep on my back if my life depended on it. Oddly, I’ve had a lucid dream where I woke up laying on my stomach.

Last and most interesting, in all of my experiences of sleep paralysis I woke up on my back.

I can’t fall asleep on my back either, just on my side. I can’t really get comfortable on my back because I get asmatic, so I’m stuck on my side :smile:

I always sleep on my stomach facing the closest wall, even when im in a different bed or at someone else’s house it’s always the same deal, stomach face closest wall, just because I find it most comfortable and because I can’t seem to sleep in any other position no matter how hard I try. Plus this way seems to have good dream recall.

My dreams are more interesting when i sleep on my left side. (I’m female.) For years I couldn’t sleep on my left side and now that I do sometimes, my dream recall is worse after. Does anyone know if changing positions during the night is better? I tend to wake up exactly as I went to sleep.

Has anyone noticed that clothing affects them in a certain way? I wonder if it’s better to sleep in some PJs or just naked for LDing. Hopefully, by the time this thread is done, we’ll know the perfect position, clothing, temperature, etc for good LDing. :happy:

Sleep on your right side;
Wear loose clothing (or no clothing);
68.353 Degrees;

I guess that’s my problem… i’ve been sleeping on my right side with no clothing. But most significantly - I’ve kept the temperature at a cool 67.2. :grin:

Sleep on your right side like fdroy said;
Wear loose clothes (can’t stand it if I sleep naked);
70 degree or below;

If WILD…

Sleep on your right side or on your back (you gotta be comfortable);
Wear really loose clothes and light blanket as possible;
70 degree or below, but not too chill that you need a heavy blanket;

Good luck!

I sleep naked, on my back, 62 degrees, a hard bed, and a soft pillow and I regularly ld. That is just how I personally am comfortable, if you arn’t comfortable that way you won’t be able to sleep that way. I can’t get comfortable on my side so obviously I will never be able to ld that way. Regardless of what works for others you have to find what is most comfortable for you. It doesn’t matter who died in what position, how energy flows according to some philosophy, or whatever else you want to come up with. You won’t dream if you don’t sleep, if another persons position is uncomfortable to you it will be hard to sleep and so to dream. Find the most comfortable position for you and you will sleep best and so be able to stay asleep longer (or at least deeper), thereby increasing your chance of dreaming and in turn increasing your chances of having a ld.

sleep on your rights side or better yet on your back" sleeping on your left side puts strain on your heart and may take off a year or so of your life and on your back with your hands by your side is a tantra sleeping position and is said to be a good posture for sleeping with. :wink:

hmm well have a lot of trouble sleeping on my back or my side or my chest or anything really, if i could sleep standing i would :smile:

i have a problem with my right chest it is totaly stuffed and it hurts :sad: so i sleep any way i can that is comfertable :smile: usally on my right side (reduce in pain) but i awake on my bac from lds

one time i dyed in my ld and my hands were placed in a sort of holding psoition on my chest, i awoke on my back and my hands were like they were in the dream, so much for SP

Cheers

I recently had an interesting conversation about sleeping positions and LDs with a remarkably talented lucid dreamer in the forum’s chatroom. Previously, I had contemplated the idea of sleeping in unusual positions or at certain angles to keep the mind more ‘aware’ while you slept. The theory is, since you’re not in your usual position, your mind would handle the night differently to how it’s used to. Humans are based on routines, and if something changes that we aren’t prepared for, it’s likely that the routine will be interrupted and you’ll be forced to tackle the situation consciously.

So then, if your built-in balance controls find themselves at something other than your regular -10 to 10 degrees inclination, your subconscious might be a little more aware and less automatic while you’re sleeping. An example of this in real life might be leaving a blank piece of paper or something on your keyboard one night as you go to bed. When you wake up and go to use your computer, your automatic routine is interrupted by the object now resting on your keyboard. This causes you to break way from the automatic routine and remember that you were going to write a letter to someone (or whatever you wanted the paper to remind you to do).

Anyway, just something to think about.

I just thought about this and I think I may have found a reason why sleeping on your back may be better for lucid dreams. I remember reading that some light hititing your eye lids while you sleep can help you have lucid dreams. The Nova dreamer uses flashing lights for instance and morning sunlight from a window probaly wouldn’t hurt either. Well, if your sleeping on your back, then you would be able to have light hitting you from a window during the early hours of the morning, but if you were sleeping on your side or stomach, than you would most likely not have any sunlight hitting your face. So I imagine sleeping on your back would help out alittle, but not alot.

There is no way I could hold a position even in my sleep. I am the all time move n’ thrash while sleepiing champ. Twice I have woken up and found my feet on the pillows. Also a question: Sometimes I wake up and find the covers are at a 90 degree angle to where they started. It is straight and smooth and looks like the bed has been made. Except its hanging off the side. How come it is so accuarate when I am sleeping.
Incidentally I sleep on my right side and haven’t had an LD yet. Also I sleep with the window open (I live in Scotland so the temperature can be absymal. There are times when I can’t face getting out of bed coz my toes are so cold), Coukd this be affecting my LDs?

I sleep best on my left side and anywhere from 30-40 degrees.

Hmm, I seem to sleep best on my left side (I’m male). Although, I sleep fairly well on my stomach and moderately well on my right side. I sleep pretty badly on my back. I tend to move a bit. I think when I had my only slightly lucid experience, I fell asleep on my left side at a low angle and woke on my stomach.

best position for ld’s???

FACE DOWN IN A BUCKET OF WATER!!!

for my one and only LD i woke up on my stomache, so i’ll say my stomache.

Lol I usually sleep on left side just because it is somehow more comfortable, and now I find it is what yoga recommends… :smile: But when I wake up, from a LD or not, I can find myself in any position… Now I’ll try to pay attention to it, but it will take too much time, so I’ll only write about WILD. 95% of WILD I had were on my back, and those 2 of them that I had on my side were very unstable and not quite detached from my real-life body. :sad: So I don’t want to experiment with it until I really master WILD…

I found the easiest positon to start the WILD process is laying on my back but that position is unconfortable to me so i prefer lying on my side and start there. Yesterday had two short LD and when i woke up i was in my back and also a weird thing that sometimes happends to me occured(but i really like when it happends): i could touch an feel my face as i would be touching it with my hand but in fact my real hands were lying on the bed while with and invisible hand i was touching my self, and i say invisible because i could see with my eyes that there were no hand there but still i felt everything, its amazing, maybe is the astral body, who knows.
