Dreaming in black and white?

I’ve never dreamt in black and white. I sometimes remember colours in dreams quite vividly.

Well when i take a nap at midday then my dreams are mostly in colour.
While at night they are almost always black and white.

Jeff

Hello there! I’m new to the boards. I’ve always dreamt in black & white and color. It just depends on the dream. The colors are basically like real life, usually not like technicolor.

my dad dreams in black and white alot, it maybe of interest to know he is also red/green colour blind.

I myself do not remember any dream in black and white and i had a b/w tv since i was 3-9yrs.

I found it interesting. I’m starting to dream in black and white more frequently. I also noticed that with black and white LD’s, I had less control. It could be just me who like to practice trance techinques, but I have noticed that as I become older, I started to dream in colors less and less and more black and white dreams. I also found that black and white dreams are more vivid to me, but yet… less vivid tactile sensations.

Prehaps you find that a same thing? When I was a kid… I never dreamt in black and white color except in two cases, but it was more symbolic than just a cause. So, I’m thinking that as you get older, you spend more time in non-REM cycle so therefore you dream in black and white color (non-REM dreams). I see that I had an old post in here saying that I rarely have black and white dreams, but now things changed a lot. I’d say I have both of them on average now. I got lucid in black and white dreams… seemly more frequently rather than in my color dreams.

Also I get them more often especially if I practice trancing techniques (meditation) before I go to bed. Or when I WILD on force. I found it so interesting that I had no control over black and white dreams when I’m lucid like I do in color dreams so I find myself wanting to explore in that state more and more. I guess I’ll get more of that soon. I surely will let you know how it goes.

Good luck on dreaming!

i read some where that ppl who dream in color actully leave their bodies when they sleep, and those who dream in black and white do not. this article it read also suggested that ppl who dreamed in color might have the ability to ‘invade’ another persons dream.

not like SD’s mind you. this would be like OBEing the entering the body of another person while they slept and meeting them in their except in this state you would have no power own the dreamscape because its not your dream.

the article even implied that if you died in this state, you would really die IRL…

 that article sounds really stupid  lol . dunno if that’s true i sure do leave my body alot . as for the death part… you wanna test it?

If this article is true. I’d be dead a long time ago already. Death was a very common dreamsign for me in my colored dreams and yet I’m still alive, typing here and still am singing my music (life) out. Nevertheless, this article is, indeed, interesting.

I don’t believe that we actually “OBE” while we dream. I do believe that we do dream in non-REM stage too… not just in REM stage. In non-REM stage, I often dream of colorless dreams. So it often explains why I always wake up faster from non-REM dreams than I do with REM stage.

Do you really think we can die in our dreams? Imagine if that was true. I don’t think we will have anyone alive here anymore. That wouldn’t be a very good news, don’t you agree?

oh, no no no no.
dont get me wrong i think the article is a big flaming pile of bullshit and i know you cant die in your dreams…but.

as a point of clearification. the article wasnt saying you could die in you own dreams, it was saying that if you were ivanding someone elses and ,lets say, they killed you for butting in on their dream. the theory is that you would since you not really dreaming, your OBEing.

i dunno. cant tell left from right on this part of the article since i’ve never left my body and enter someone elses dream before…whatever…

i posted this in the other thread. but yes i believe in rare possibilities it could be possible. My reason is simple, it is possible to become so scared that you litterally die from fear (a heart attack) - if you was to have a dream where you had absolutely no idea you are dreaming then i think it could be possible to be scared enough that your heart stops beating.

– as for that article i guess i leave my body EVERY night lol.

well if they killed your dream body , or sprit or whatever. you still wouldn’t actually die. you would go into a coma or somthing . right>? lol

Kurt_Zenan: I’m not intending to compress your opinion at all. I was just commenting my opinion. That’s all. My apologizes for any offenses I have done. I didn’t mean to.

By the way, for me, SD’s are possible because of pyschic links that we have, not because the ability that we have to OBE.

:eh: …no offense taken
feels kind of lost
what did you say that might have offended me…nenvermind. alls well that endes well.

also, have any of you heard of the prana?
its supposedly and invisible string that connects your astral body to your physical body when you are projecting. i have come across many ppl and artcles that say if this string was severed that your physical body would die. no one has ever been clear on how this string might be cut though… :bored:

This is a very interesting conversation. Since I was a child, I have died many times in dreams and I almost always dream in color. Black and white dreams are usually message dreams, when I’ve missed a message in my color dreams several times. Kind of like, “I said Pay Attention!!”

I have heard of this. All animals/beings are supposed to have them. I haven’t ever personally seen such an energy cord during dreaming or OBE. I read a book several years ago that had exercises to cut the strings of energy you leave connected to other people all your life. I imagined the thread and imagined cutting it with the tool of my choice. Very freeing exercise, I must say. It’s amazing how much energy past relationships suck out of you even years later. I felt so much lighter after an afternoon of meditation, candles and these cord-cutting exercises.

Speaking of cord cutting, it was also an exercise I used later to release my children so they could move forward and build their own lives. My youngest was almost 18 when I did this exercise for him, he will be 19 next month on the 23rd. My adult children are all 3 excellent people. I still send them love and also intentional energy whenever they need it, but the constant bond isn’t there to drain any of us. Does that make sense? :hmmm:

BTW, love the avatar, Fear! Kurt’s is cool, too. Fear, I understand what you are saying about the coma thing. I think I saw a sci fi movie or read a book years ago that dealt with this subject. It seems to me that it would involve so much preplanning and dream talent that it would all be unlikely. Also, I think by the time we develop our Talents to that point, we would be able to spot intentions before any harm was done. Just a thought. Come visit us over at Sea Life and see what you might be able to do with dreaming. One of the things I want to do: I want to eventually be able to use dreams to heal others.

Love to you and yours

oh man!

fear, i just realized what ur avatar was. r u a chrono cross fan too

My dad asked me one time “So (My name), when you “lucid dream” is it in color?” I replied “Yeah, all my dreams are in color, aren’t yours?” He told me no, and so we got into a debate. My little brothers dreams are about 50/50, my moms are all color, my dads are all black and white, and mine are all in color. It would be a really good DS to see black and white and go “Im dreaming!” I wonder if you COULD add color to a black and white. An expierement

You know, I tried to do this one of the last times I had a b & w dream. I thought, “Hey! This is black and white! I want color!” but it didn’t work. The edges of things got a bit sharper, but no colors appeared. :eh:

Love

I don’t think it’s really black and white, in my case inside locations are usually dimly lit, and can seem B&W. Although once outside the colors are, as they’ve said before, even better than real life  They surely seem sharper and crisper.

I wonder… Could it be cause there isn’t any pollution in dreamland

my grandma is always like “i had the most horrible dream about a blood red snake, the color was so VIVID!” and i’m like… “… so?” and she’s shocked that I dream in color.

I think it is 100% rooted to B&W photographs, movies, tv, etc… I mean… what we expose ourselves to daily for huge quanitties of time leaks into our dreams, most assuredly… when something so amazing as pictures, movies, and tv, came to be… I bet they permeated a huge majority of everyone’s dream content for some time to come.

The only B&W dream I ever had was a dream of Alfred Hitchcok, being inside one of his tv shows or something… so I firmly agree with this theory.

I also dream in color in NREM… I can validate this by lingering hypnagogic hallucinations upon startling awake (happens every night)… i can’t think of one that’s ever been in B&W… usually I find myself staring at a slowly fading away desk, street, location, bridge, tv screen (HENCE BLACK AND WHITE FOR OLDER PEOPLE!), computer screen… product… etc.

Besides, my inner eye visions always have dazzling color… I just recalled a fragmented dream memory, perhaps today, of some really vividly beautiful dark purplish blue… I remember that I was trying to describe it to some DC or to myself even… it was mainly just inner eye vision stuff.

Very pretty.

I don’t know what some of you mean by “intense” color though… I dream the way I normally see… and I dont’ normally see any “intense” colors, but then again my eyesight sucks a lot… I recall one LD though where everything was exceptionally sharp and beautiful… I saw a feather floating in the sky and some sort of light shimmered off of it, and it just felt so intense, sharp, otherwordly… like I must have had perfect 20/20 or better vision.

Considering how much I dream about tv and movies and computer I can completely understand most people with poor dream recall believing that they only dream in B&W… afterall nightmares are likely to be stemmed from movie content than about anything else I can think of (for me, aside from phobias)

I also can assert that I used to dream in color before I was capable of lucid dreaming as a child.

back onto NREM dreams briefly, I thought I was inside one the other day, and almost was aware of a “shift” to REM, as i was no longer so bound to my bed, the activities I were doing did not require much immobility/sleep themes, my friend butted in for no reason wanting to talk to me, I got dragged out into more abstract and weird scenes…

where as before that, everything was at least semi-real… I think NREM dreams are way more realistic than REM dreams, becuase NREM tends to deal with memories, learning, going over familiar processes/neural pathways, etc.

REM … tends to deal with the unconscious and all it’s crazy symbolism and whatnot… as far as I can gather.

But I don’t know I at the time told the girl I was with (felt like an SD) that “i must have just entered REM” and I told my friend he could talk to me later, but that I was clearly busy right now.

Before I started practicing LD all of my dreams where in black and white, but I think that this, for me, was mainly because they weren’t as vivid and because I didn’t remeber them as well. Now they are always in colors etc.
