Thanks for the topic Eilatan
Wyvern: Nightingale indeed is a wonderful song; I used to listen a lot to Yanni and this was usually one of my favourites and that Duduk sounds very warm! Hadn’t heard of it before.
My favourite instruments at the moment tend to be
Cello:
<&weesiiw> cello has a very nice sound, sad and serious and dark
I have to agree with Siiw on this one… Add to it that the instrument looks impressive and can be played various ways.
- Giovanni Sollima - Sogno ad Occhi Aperti (Daydream) PART 1 and Part 2 (especially the video that Lasse “FAEN!” Gjertsen added, adds to the feeling of chaotic dreamworld)
- Cello Wars (Star Wars Parody) Light Saber Duel - Steven Sharp Nelson (I especially like when these classical instruments get combined with popular culture)
- Steven Sharp Nelson - The Cello Song - Bach is back (with 7 more cellos) The Piano Guys (I especially like in this song how the cello is played in different ways; as a percussion instrument, like a guitar and the classical way)
- Nothing Else Matters - Apocalyptica’s cover
- (And though he doesn’t play a cello in this tune, it’s a lovely rant about the cello part of Pachelbel’s Canon: Rob Parovian’s Pachelbel rant and how you can hear it in lots of songs )
- Pagagnini’s rendition of Pachelbel’s Canon in D (a similar rant, but then fully non-verbal in music)
- Pachelbel’s Canon still is one of my favourite classical pieces; partially I guess because it features my favourite string instruments, and I guess because it gives me so many fond memories of the SNES game Utopia: Creation of a Nation as a variation of it was used for one of the levels, Rhendor IV
b Violin:[/b]
Where the cello has a bit serious tone, the violin tends to be a bit more playful; remembering the past, but living in the moment and being hopeful about the future.
- Celtic dueling violins - Smith & Nesbitt. Live from Hyde Park London (From Riverdance, something I love as well, but especially this part I really like)
- Shenandoah Violin Solo - Mairead Nesbitt again some celtic music, but still very pleasing.
- XJapan - Yoshiki Sugizo Violin Solo and Silent Jealousy X JAPAN (Violin Mix) are a nice combination of (J-)Rock and classical music.
- Tuengxx’ played with violin “Vampire Killer” [Castlevania] (Violin meets retrogaming)
and as a crossover to another favourite ‘instrument’
Human Voice
- Legend of Zelda medley - A Capella Voices and Violin (though he doesn’t really use his voice to imitate instruments)
- Local Vocal - 90’s Dance acapella medley mix children of the 90s will surely appreciate this mix
- Straight No Chaser - The Christmas Can-Can (Single Edit) to get in the christmas (shopping) mood
- Original Voca People (Plus Song Names)
- Kitchen diaries this category of course wouldn’t be complete without some beatboxing by Beardyman.
And last but not least:
Bagpipe
Though it’s not common in everyday music, I still fancy a nice tune with some bagpipes, especially if it is rather upbeat:
- Wild celtic bagpipe piece
- OCR00889: Chrono Trigger ‘Spekkio the Brave’ OC ReMix [Jolly Ol’ Spekkio]
- Just for laughs: Star Wars Bagpipes
