Mozilla Firebird

Just thought i would let you all know about Mozilla Firebird, its a great alternative to Internet Explorer.

mozilla.org

That’s the link if you’re interested. It does save all your IE bookmarks so you won’t loose those. I find it makes surfing phpbb type forums much quicker (since they rely on java can be slow in IE)

Instructions: Download the appropriate version of Mozilla Firebird
unzip to your “program files” folder and run the exe no installer just surf away

normally i wouldn’t suggest things like this but i find it much better than IE so i thought people might be interested.

Mozilla Firebird is freeware (totally free) and well worth trying out. Even on 56k/dialup MF is noticably faster than IE.

I agree, although it takes up more memory I believe, I know my old computer ran slower with it, but a decent computer will run it just fine

well my computer is running fine with it, the new firebird version is good and fast. I’m running XP and according to task manager it’s using 18,908kbs memory, where as my IE used to use around 24,000kbs

I toally agree with Dark Matter  Not only is MozillaFirebird faster, but also much more secure against viruses

I have been using mozilla for over 1 year now, no problems yet :cool_laugh:

Tabbed windows :cool_laugh: NICE, this is just what has been bothering me, all the different ones and then i close one by accident and so on. Thanks.

Using it right now, it is ALOT faster with the forums, seems pretty great so far. :content:

wow, this is great, everything goes when i click it. And it does pop-up blocking, and the tabbed windows. I couldn’t have done a better job myself.

what you really want are the extensions. but on my computer startup and sometimes during use, plus after I switch to other applications make my computer SLOW AS FRIGGIN HELL. Anyways I recommend you block all Ad images (those banner ads? right click them and BLOCK THE AD SITE WHO SENT THEM TO YOU!! Blocking the ad site usually does not mean blocking images from the site you are visiting. I blocked the ads on Cnet and the Cnet images still show, for example.

infection in mozilla there is an option for show/block images then a suboption for if you allow them - “For originating website only” which means any image that doesn’t belong to the site you are on won’t show.

Not as great on forums since people link offsite for avatars.

Thanks, very fast. And the buttons at LD4ALL actually look like buttons. It likes my wheel mouse better than IE. It has some small, but noticable things in it. I asume these will be corrected in future generations.

I notice that it seems to load what it has striaght away instead of waiting for the whole page to load sort of thing.

yes one reason i love it on a dialup lol.

Most of you probably read this, but i should add its only a preview not a final version. But in my oppinion already surpasses IE in most areas.

FireBird is a fantastic alternative to IE. While you’re at the site, why not grab a copy of ThunderBird to replace that old copy of Outlook Express?

One of the great things about FireBird is that it’s Open Source, meaning the source code is available from the official page to anyone interested. If you think you can improve on some of the features, by all means, give it a go!

i must say it’s good that so many people are at least willing to give none microsoft products ago - most of which seem to prefer the suggestions lol. I know many people who diss microsoft products endlessly but won’t change to something else - i find that kind of funny.

I must say i am loving this browser and although it can be inconvenient dloading some of the plugins like shockwave again i think it’s worth the extra effort.

Me! Give Microsoft products a go. You insult me. Lol. Microsoft has produced the worst software and OSs. So what is mozilla? (Not firebird)

just to note that Mozilla Firebird has been renamed (again) to FireFox and Mozilla FireFox v0.8 is now availible.

Personally i am sticking with Firebird until the final V1 version is complete as i have had no problems.

I’ve just installed firefox. I can’t notice much changes, but I think it is even faster than before. Where as I had to wait for the forum to load for a short time, it seems to appear instantly now.

Then again…

I downloaded Firefox a few hours ago and it seems to be better than IE. But it actually crashed for me while browsing. Otherwise i like it.

i occationally have been having “flash errors” since installing FireFox - though i have had no problems with firebird.

No crashes myself with either version. I’m not sure if FF is a little slower/faster than FB or not (Internet problems) - either way still beats the pants off of IE.

Darn it Firefox is inferior to Firebird (less compatibility with plugins, especially with my most important one- Tab Browser Extensions, I can’t install that without Firefox crapping out! But I’m too lazy to reinstall Firebird…
