LD4all exists since 1996. From then it has grown from a tiny dreamspot to a large lucid dreaming community with members from all over the world.
1st incarnation: Through the Mirror
The site was developed for my art school graduation project. At that time I had just discovered lucid dreaming and I wanted to tell everybody how cool it is and how to do it. I also wanted to do something with the Web because it was beginning to gain populairity and had grown out of text only. (You could actually make backgrounds and display images in Netscape 2.0!)
I called my site Through the Mirror - Beyond Dreaming. "Through the Mirror" because in a lot of my lucid dreams I stepped through my bedroom mirror. "Beyond Dreaming" because when you are lucid you can do more than dreaming alone. You can influence the dream as you wish and do whatever you want to do.
The site was inspired by a dream in which I saw how to divide the screen into
two equal parts. The left one for textual content (information) and the right one for visual content (paintings).
It was launched in may 1996.
2nd incarnation: transition to LD4all
As time progressed so did my HTML skills. I wanted to put more information on the site. People were asking for it. Also, javascript was introduced so you could use cool mouse-over-effects (*the* thing in those days). So I started sketching and dreaming again.
This resulted in may 1999 in the
second incarnation. I tried to keep the original feel to it. Also the division between image (the mirror) and information (the texts) was kept.
After a year or so I did a
little facelift, using other fonts and also incorporating the right wing into navigation space. At that time I also decided to add a discussion board to the site. The forum has had several looks.
In the meantime I also wanted an easier to remember URL. I decided to go for a domain name. But throughthemirrorbeyonddreaming.com didn't have a ring to it. TTM.com was already taken. I scrolled through a list of suggested domainnames and LD4all.com hit me. I knew that was the one. So I went for it.
3rd incarnation: LD4all
As time passed and new possibilities in webdesign became available, my hands itched to use it in LD4all. But it took a while before I could finally realize that dream.
On august 24 2003 I dreamt the new design. It has taken me more than a year to bring it into reality.
On november 27 2004 the new LD4all has been launched. It has kept the LD4all atmosphere but is now easier to navigate and is better readable.
You are now inside my dream.
